Description
Sphinx Pose is a gentle, supported backbend where the forearms rest on the ground in front of the body. With elbows under the shoulders, Sphinx Pose creates a soft arch in the upper back, stretching the chest and abdomen without requiring much arm strength. It lightly engages the muscles along the spine to keep the chest lifted, helping to tone the lower back in a subtle way. Because it is performed with the pelvis grounded, Sphinx Pose is accessible to most practitioners and is often used to introduce backbends safely, promoting spinal extension and opening of the front body.
