Description
Side Plank Pose (Vasisthasana) builds strength in the lateral chain of the body. The supporting arm’s shoulder and rotator cuff muscles work to stabilize the body, and the obliques and gluteus medius on that side engage to lift the hips and keep the body straight. The muscles of the opposite (upper) side body stretch and lengthen slightly from the hips to the raised arm, while the legs remain active (pressing the feet together or one foot on the floor) to assist in maintaining balance.
