Description
Cobra Pose is a milder backbend performed on the belly with hands pressing into the floor under the shoulders. In this pose, the chest lifts and the elbows remain slightly bent, using the back muscles more than the arms to rise up. Cobra primarily strengthens the muscles of the spine and firms the buttocks as the back contracts. It also stretches the front torso – the chest and abdominal region – albeit less intensely than Upward Dog. This pose increases spinal mobility and is therapeutic for improving posture, as it encourages the shoulders to roll back and the heart to open.
